In June 2023, Mariel had the chance to present a poster at a Gordon Research Conference. The poster was based on her postdoc work looking at how early career researchers (undergrads, postbacs, and grad students) develop a science researcher identity during research training in the natural sciences. Besides presenting research, the chance to learn more about different aspects of undergraduate biology education research and to network with colleagues was awesome!

This last week Mariel traveled back to the University of Mississippi for a second campus visit. It was great to meet with colleagues, learn more about the biology department, and to really start planning for the lab opening in January. We have a great space in the works! Also, check out the UM swag…love it!

In February 2023, Mariel and her doctoral advisor, Julie Stanton, were interviewed by UGA News. Mariel had the chance to talk with Katie Cowart about her research regarding the experiences of STEM undergraduates with ADHD and learning disabilities when active-learning practices like group work and clicker questions are used by an instructor. Check out the UGA columns article to learn more.
